The Puerto Rico Judo Federation has been working hard, developing their Judo in Schools programme. The first launch will be at the ‘Pachín Marín,’ a centre located in the Hato Rey community, San Juan. There, 22 girls and boys will receive lessons to get to know and practise the sport of judo.

Mrs Gabriela Cruz Ramos, the school chairwoman, said, “We are very proud and honoured to have the support of the Puerto Rico Judo Federation here in our school. Our institution specialises in sport; we have several disciplines and among them is judo, so we thank Sensei Luis Martinez who is collaborating with us.”

In open discussion she also said that, “Judo contributes to the development of the personality of teenagers, taking into account not only the physical aspect but also the emotional one. It keeps them away from negative things. Sport really saves lives and judo promotes positive values. That is why it is important that our school joins this kind of project.”

Thanks to the IJF’s support, Sensei Luis Martinez Rosado delivered judogi to the students chosen to be the pioneers in this course, moving forward from January 2025.
